Biography
Dr. Slater graduated from University of Florida School of Medicine and finished internal medicine training at University of Connecticut Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford Connecticut. In addition he completed a Masters in Public Health and a Fellowship in Primary Care at the George Washington University in Washington DC. Dr. Slater is currently the Medical Director Computerized Decision Support at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics. His primary administrative duties are as physician champion for the EpicCare Inpatient Electronic Health Record, especially the Computer-provider Order Entry aspects. He has a small outpatient practice at University Station and precepts internal medicine residents there. He also developed an elective in informatics for medical students at the School of Medicine and Public Health.Prior to coming to University of Wisconsin, he was on the faculty at George Washington University. Dr. Slater also worked for the National Health Service Corps in rural New Mexico for 3 years and was the doctor for Peace Corps Volunteers in West and then East Africa for 7 1/2 years.
