Biography

Dr. Vogelman joined the Infectious Disease Section in 1986 after completing his Internal Medicine Residency, Chief Residency, and Infectious Disease Fellowship at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics (UWHC). His accomplishments as a clinician and teacher have been noteworthy, as exemplified by his receiving numerous departmental awards, several medical school teaching awards, and the University of Wisconsin Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching. Dr. Vogelman is board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. He was the course chairman of the Second-Year School of Medicine and Public Health pathophysiology coursse, "Mechanisms of Infectious Diease", in which ID section faculty and fellows teach. He worked with Dr. William Craig on antimicrobial pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics in animal models of infection. Currently, he is the Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program, Senior Associate Chair for Education for the Department of Medicine, and Co-Director of the UWHC program for the care of individuals with HIV infection. He currently applies his expertise to overseeing the multitude of educational venues in the Department of Medicine (from undergraduate to graduate and continuing medical education and professional development). He fosters and mentors medical students, residents and fellows, so that they can optimize their learning and career growth.

Dr. Vogelman's excellence in teaching has been recognized in a number of forums:

  • Parker Palmer "Courage to Teach" award, 2000, given by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education
  • University of Wisconsin Chancellor's Teaching Award, 1993
  • Education Innovation Project approved by the Residency Review Committee-Internal Medicine in 2005, one of only twenty in the U.S.
