Biography

Christine A. Sorkness received her BS in Pharmacy (1973) and Doctor of Pharmacy degree (1975) from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Dr. Sorkness was an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy at SUNYAB from 1977-1979, and developed one of the first pharmacist-managed Anticoagulation Clinics in the United States, at the Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo, New York. She joined the University of Wisconsin faculty in 1979 and is currently Professor of Pharmacy and Medicine (CHS). Dr. Sorkness is Director of the Anticoagulation Clinics at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison, a recognized ASHP Research and Education Foundation Anticoagulation Clinic Training Site. In addition, she is a member of the faculty and investigator with the UW Allergy Division's clinical research program. Dr. Sorkness is a co-principal investigator at the Madison site for both the NHLBI Asthma Clinical Research Network and Childhood Asthma Research and Education Network grants and was the principal investigator of a NIAAID - funded Asthma Demonstration project entitled "The Impact of an Asthma Counselor on Underserved Head Start Children and Their Families." She was recently awarded a 3 year grant from HUD, entitled "The Wisconsin Healthy Homes Initiatives," which will address environmental risks of asthma, lead exposure, and home injuries. Dr. Sorkness has given many presentations at various medical education conferences and association meetings, including those of the American Thoracic Society and the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology. Her articles and abstracts have been published in Pediatrics, Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, Chest, Annals of Pharmacotherapy, American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, New England Journal of Medicine, Controlled Clinical Trials, and Pharmacotherapy. She is a member of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, the American Pharmaceutical Association, the American Thoracic Society, and the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy.
