Welcome to the Meriter Hospital Internal Medicine Teaching Service(MTS)! The Medical Teaching Service is comprised of two residents (PG-2 or P-3), two interns (PG-1's) and two 4th year sub-I medical students.

Directions/Parking

Meriter Hospital is located at 202 S. Park Street in Madison. You may park on level 8 in the Meriter Hospital parking ramp the first day. Report at 0700 hours to the Medical Teaching Service classroom on 6-Tower (Pulmonary Clinic area) which is right inside from parking ramp level 8. Ann Phelps' office (administrative coordinator Medical Education) is located on 6-Atrium, right around the corner from the classroom. After the first day, you will be parking across the street from the hospital in the parking ramp at 1 South Park Street (there is a covered walkway across Park Street to the hospital). Parking is $7.00/week.

Orientation

Students should report to the MTS conference room on 6-Tower at 0700 hours on the first day of the rotation to join the residents. An orientation will be held on the first day at the earliest convenient time with Ann Phelps (administrative coordinator), and you will be given an orientation packet. Also, Dr. John Schilling (associate program director) will have an orientation session which will be held during the first couple of days of the rotation.

Typical Day Schedule

You will work 6 days per week and have one day a week off. Schedules will vary week to week with start times as early as 0700 and end as late as 21 hours. Daily morning report will be conducted for an hour each morning with a subspeciality conference being held once weekly. Medical Grand Rounds are held on Friday from 0800 to 0900 hours.

Computer Access

There are currently three available computers in the Medical Teaching Service classroom. Computers are also available in the hospital's medical library and in the Community Health Educational Center. On the first day, you will receive access to Meriter Hospital's clinical information database (EpicCare). Your WISCR-IT passwords will give you access to EpicWeb here at Meriter (outpatient clinic notes).

Food

Meriter Hospital has a coffee shop and a cafeteria. Meals in the cafeteria are provided free to students the evening on call as well as breakfast and lunch the following day. There is a refrigerator and microwave available for use in the Medical Teaching Service classroom.
