Dr. Bartho Caponi joined the Section of Hospital Medicine in the Department of Medicine as an Instructor (CHS) in 2008. Dr. Caponi obtained his M.D. degree at the University of Illinois at Rockford before completing internship and residency training in Internal Medicine at the University of Wisconsin Hospital & Clinics.
Dr. Caponi practices Hospital Medicine as a nocturnist and is an active member of the Section’s Education Committee. His local contributions include data measurement and patient flow. Areas of focus are patient safety, resident education, and transitions of care.

Dr. Gangireddy joined the Section of Hospital Medicine in the Department of Medicine as Clinical Assistant Professor in 2008. She obtained her M.D. degree at the Osmania Medical College in Hyderabad, India in 1999. She completed her residency at Western Pennsylvania Hospital, Temple Affiliated, in Pittsburgh, PA and pursued critical care training at University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics.
Dr. Gangireddy practices at our LTAC and academic hospitals. Dr. Gangireddy is a member of the Quality Improvement Committee at Select Specialty Hospital in Madison, WI. She mentors medical students and is an active member of the Section’s Research Committee.

Dr. Taimur Habib joined the Section of Hospital Medicine in the Department of Medicine as a Clinical Assistant Professor in December, 2007 after 3 years as a hospitalist at Banner Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ. He obtained his M.D. degree from Rawalpindi Medical College in Pakistan. His residency training was completed at University of Chicago, Weiss Memorial Hospital followed by chief residency at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Habib completed his fellowship and board certification in Geriatrics from Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN.
As a member of the Section of Hospital Medicine’s Clinical Care Committee, he has lead quality improvement projects related to regional tertiary care referrals, triage and throughput at University of Wisconsin Hospital. He has also taken an active role in the implementation of the electronic medical record and related quality projects, including templates design and pathways. Dr. Habib is committed to patient satisfaction and teamwork.

Dr. Barbara Higgins joined the Section of Hospital Medicine in the Department of Medicine as Clinical Assistant Professor in 2008. She received her M.D. degree at the University of Minnesota Medical School and her internship residency at the New England Medical School Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts. She completed residency at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Dr. Higgins was Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Illinois, Rockford where she was awarded Outstanding Community Clinical Preceptor of the year 2005-2006. She worked in private practice, and then joined the hospitalist staff of the SwedishAmerican Hospital group becoming program director from 2006-2008.
Dr. Higgins serves on the Section’s Clinical Care Committee with a focus on quality initiatives and medical ethics. She is also a member of the University of Wisconsin Medical Foundation Audit Committee.

Dr. Hoffman joined the Section of Hospital Medicine as a Clinical Assistant Professor in 2005. He obtained his M.D. degree at University of Wisconsin, Madison in 2001 and completed his residency at Legacy Health System in Portland, Oregon.
Dr. Hoffman is the Domain Leader for the Clinical Care Committee. He has lead the Department’s Morbidity and Mortality Conference, and started a Peer Review process in the Section of Hospital Medicine. His academic focus is on high quality patient care.

She obtained her M.D. degree at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee then residency training at St. Joseph Hospital in Denver, Colorado. Dr. Howard completed fellowship training at the University of Colorado, Denver VA Medical Center, Division of Geriatrics.
Dr. Howard is a LTAC staff hospitalist at Select Specialty Hospital in Madison, WI. Her focus is on geriatrics and she serves as Medical Director for a skilled nursing facility.

Dr. Edward (Butch) Lalik joined the Section of Hospital in the Department of Medicine as Clinical Assistant Professor in 2008 after practicing hospital medicine from 2004-2008 at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ. Dr. Lalik received his medical degree from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, graduating as a member of Psi Sigma Alpha, Iota Chapter, the National Osteopathic Scholastic Honor Society. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ.
Dr. Lalik is Director of Inpatient Hospitalist Services at UWHC. He is an active member of the Section of Hospital Medicine’s Clinical Care Committee as well as the UWHC Respiratory Therapy Committee. His areas of interest include patient satisfaction and quality improvement.

Dr. Scott Mead joined the Section of Hospital Medicine in the Department of Medicine as a Clinical Assistant Professor in 2005. He received his M.D. degree from University of Wisconsin in Madison then completed internship at University of Minnesota and residency at University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics.
Dr. Mead serves on the Section’s Clinical Care Committee and the Education Committee as well as medical director of the Department of Corrections – UWHC affiliation. His interests are in medical ethics, student education and global health.

Dr. Modhia practices hospital medicine at Select Specialty Hospital in long term acute care and is a nocturnist at UWHC. Publications include “Use of an Electronic Medical Record to Characterize Cases of Intermediate Statin-Induced Muscle Toxicity” published in “Preventive Cardiology” in the Spring 2009 issue. Dr. Modhia serves on the Quality Control Committee at Select Specialty Hospital.

Dr. Redford joined the Section of Hospital Medicine in the Department of Medicine as a Clinical Assistant Professor in 2005. He obtained his M.D. degree at the University of Kansas in Kansas City, Kansas in 1993. He completed his residency at the University of Wisconsin Madison.
In addition to working as a nocturnist, Dr. Redford is also a member of the Research Committee. He has been pivotal in the development and sustenance of the night hospital medicine program, allowing this to become its own area of sub-specialized care. Areas of participation have included management of the hospitalist night services and instruction and mentoring to newer hospitalist colleagues.

Dr. Ann Sheehy joined the Section of Hospital Medicine in the Department of Medicine as a Clinical Assistant Professor in 2005. She received her M.D. and M.S. degrees in Clinical Research from the Mayo Medical School and Mayo Graduate School, respectively, in Rochester, Minnesota, and served her residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.
Dr. Sheehy practices academic hospital medicine at UWHC where she is Leader of the Investigation Domain. As a clinician investigator, she conducts public health research in the area of diabetes screening practices, health care disparities, and care of inpatients with hyperglycemia. She is a member of the Department of Medicine Residency Oversight Committee, and Chair of the Department of Medicine Residency Structure Redesign Task Force.

Dr. Julia Wright obtained her medical degree at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and completed Internal Medicine residency training with a focus on primary care at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Dr. Wright joined the Department of Medicine in 1999 to practice traditional internal medicine at a community affiliate hospital as a UW Health faculty physician. She advanced to the position of Clinical Associate Professor in 2003. In 2006 Dr. Wright became Director of Hospital Medicine and Head of the Section of Hospital Medicine in 2008. In 2009, Dr. Wright was promoted to Clinical Professor. She became Director of UW Health Regional Hospital Medicine in July 2009, a new UW Health enterprise.
Dr. Wright’s expertise is in leadership, innovative practice initiatives, and systems of care delivery. Her focus is in practice management and hospital medicine program development. She has presented regionally and nationally in hospital medicine leadership and women in medicine.
In addition to service on local and executive committees, she is a contributing physician editor to the national publication of the Society of Hospital Medicine and member of SHM Leadership and SHM Membership Committees. Dr. Wright is President of the Southern Wisconsin Chapter of SHM, and Fellow of ACP and SHM.

Ms. Wroblewski began working with the Section of Hospital Medicine in 2007. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire in 1981, after which she worked in the area of medical critical care as a staff nurse and in clinical nursing education. She has been certified in Critical Care nursing since 1989 and taught Advanced Cardiac Life Support courses and review courses for the critical care nursing certification exam. She received her Master of Science in nursing from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 2007 and is Board Certified as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Ms. Wroblewski is a member of the Section of Hospital Medicine's Clinical Care Committee, the Advance Practice Nurses Credentialing Committee, and the Advance Practice Nurses Peer Review Committee. Her areas of interest include improving transitions of care, intermediate and critical care, and nursing education.
