Mark Burkard, MD, PhD
Mark Burkard, MD, completed medical training and PhD research in Chemistry at the University of Rochester. He completed Internship/Residency at New York Hospital--Cornell and Fellowship in Medical Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Hematology/Oncology Section. Dr. Burkard’s clinical focus is medical treatment for breast cancer. His research focus is development and selection of the optimal targeted therapies for breast cancer. To do this, he combines chemical and genetic tools, i.e., chemical genetics. He is opening a research laboratory on WIMR 6 where he will pursue this research. Dr. Burkard is also a member of the Breast Cancer Disease Oriented Working Group which organizes clinical and translational group in this area. Through this group, he is developing collaborative projects with researchers in genetics, cancer biology, pharmacology, and engineering.
