Department of Medicine
University of Wisconsin
Message from the Chairman
Welcome to the Department of Medicine
Members of the Department are involved in teaching health care professionals at all levels (undergraduate, School of Medicine and Public Health, post graduate, continuing medical education and allied health professional education). This activity includes efforts to develop and maintain a curriculum that is appropriate for the education of health care providers in the next century, and to enhance the effectiveness of the educational process through innovation. Our education programs enjoy an excellent reputation and our residency program has thrived and has been recognized as an ACGME Education Innovation Project site. The program has enjoyed a 100% pass rate on the ABIM certifying examination for the past two years.
The Department of Medicine faculty is actively engaged in the care of patients from the local community. We provide primary care to many patients living in the Madison area, the full range of sub-specialty care to local and regional patients, and state of the art innovation in many areas of medicine. This care is delivered in conjunction with clinical research programs and the clinical education of medical students, residents and fellows in a manner that strives the highest levels of patient satisfaction and professionalism. The Department is committed to the quality of this practice and to the satisfaction of our patients.
The University of Wisconsin is known for its strong research environment and is steeped in academic excellence. Our scholarly efforts are integrated with those of our colleagues in the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health and other schools on campus. Some examples of these combined efforts are the federally funded Clinical Research Center, the Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Cardiovascular Center, the Institute on Aging, and the federally funded Medical Education in the 21st Century program, to name a few of our over 15 multidisciplinary research centers and over 10 nationally funded research training grants to support the next generation of researchers.
We are committed to valuing all aspects of an academic medical center: high-quality evidenced-based clinical care, cutting edge research and learner-centered education.
