In 1961 Condon Vander Ark graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School where he received the Outstanding Medical Student Research Award from the Michigan Heart Association. He completed his medical residency and cardiology fellowship at the University of Michigan and served as an assistant professor at the University of Michigan for four years before joining the Wisconsin faculty in 1972.

His research interests have been clinically-based since 1983. He has been principal investigator on multiple clinical protocols involving antiarrhythmic drug therapy, thrombolytic therapy and congestive heart failure.

Vander Ark served as interim head of the Cardiology Division from 1979 to 1983 and again from 1992 to 1995. He also served as Chair of the Cardiology Clinical Research Committee, a member of the Department of Medicine Foundation Executive Committee and a member of the UW Medical Foundation Retirement Committee.

He has served the American Heart Association-Wisconsin Affiliate as Chair of the Research Committee; President-Elect and President, Research Task Force; and on the North Central Regional Committee and Research Council of the American Heart Association.
