VA Cardiac Catheterization

Veterans Administration Cardiac Catheterization

The VA Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory uses a single-plane Phillips digital cardiac catheterization imaging system supported by a Quinton monitoring system. The present annual catheterization volume is about 400 cases per year and is expected to increase in the near future with the opening of several new referring outreach clinics throughout Wisconsin. One hundred interventional cardiology cases are performed each year including PTCA, stent placements and atherectomy by UW interventional cardiology faculty. Elective cardiac catheterizations and myocardial biopsy procedures are performed annually on heart transplant recipients. Interventional cardiology faculty and/or peripheral vascular surgeons perform peripheral vascular interventions in the lab. Most months a fellow in cardiovascular diseases is assigned to a VA cath lab rotation for training purposes.
