The VA Hospital has its own Cardiac Surgery program staffed by UW cardiac surgeons with joint UW and VA Hospital appointments. Approximately 100 open heart surgeries and 10 to 15 cardiac transplantations are performed each year. Facilities are available for use of left ventricular assist devices and minimally invasive coronary revascularization procedures, and there is particular expertise in mitral and aortic valve repair surgery.
