Medical Students

Members of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine interact with medical students during each of their four years. Contact during the first year is largely limited to participation in the Physical Diagnosis course. During the second year, Cardiovascular Medicine faculty play a major role in coordinating and teaching the Cardiovascular Pathophysiology course. The course is directed by Jon Keevil, MD who shoulders a significant teaching burden in addition to administering the course. Several others in the Division lecture extensively and other faculty participate in the course as small group instructors. Third year medical students are assigned to general medical wards. Their contact with members of the Division includes frequent lectures on general issues such as congestive heart failure, acute myocardial infarction and topic oriented conferences, and as clinical mentors during third year Medicine rotations. During the fourth year, students elect rotations on the cardiology consult service or function as subinterns on the Cardiovascular Medicine ward and Coronary Care Unit, and rotate to cardiology clinics across Madison.
