The Heart Station, under the direction of Douglas Kopp, MD, provides a full range of electrocardiographic services for UW Hospital and Clinics, UW Clinics East and West, Atrium practice, and other regional clinics and out-of-state hospitals. Its services include electrocardiography, 24- and 48-hour ambulatory electrocardiography, electrocardiographic event recording, signal-average electrocardiography and exercise stress testing.
The majority of electrocardiographic stress testing is done in conjunction with nuclear and echocardiographic stress imaging, but is also performed in conjunction with metabolic cardiopulmonary stress testing. The Heart Station performs nearly 32,000 ECGs, more than 2,200 exercise stress ECGs and 250 Holter and arrhythmia analysis studies annually. All electrocardiographic data are interpreted by staff cardiologists, either primarily or by reviewing and over-reading interpretations prepared by medicine residents or cardiology fellows as part of their training program. Electrocardiography teaching conferences are held on a weekly basis.
The Heart Station is fully computerized with state-of-the-art equipment to provide on-line digital record storage and retrieval to enhance patient care and facilitate teaching. ECG tracings are available on-line to all clinicians through the UW Hospital information systems.
