Adult Asthma and Allergy Home Page
Asthma is a disease that affects your airways. Asthma causes the inside walls of your airways to become swollen. This makes the airways very sensitive. When the airways are irritated, they narrow and less air gets to your lung tissue.
The University of Wisconsin Asthma, Allergy, and Pulmonary Research Center is a nationally known research facility that has been studying asthma for over 30 years. Our research department conducts studies in both children and adults.
Our research efforts, along with the thousands of people who have been in our studies, have helped to develop new asthma medications that may include those you currently use. The research center conducts many kinds of asthma related research. Some special areas of interest are:
- Origins of asthma in children and adults
- How colds affect asthma
- Uncontrolled or severe asthma
- Exercise induced asthma
- The role of genetics in asthma
We are looking for adults and children who may be interested in being part of a research study. Why would you consider being in a study?
- To learn about your asthma symptoms and ways to control them
- Participants are reimbursed for time and travel
- To help test new asthma treatments that are not available to the general public
- Individual care from asthma specialists
- To help researchers learn more about asthma
- Our study team focuses on your safety and comfort
If you are interested in learning more about our current research studies, complete our online questionnaire, or contact us at tmp@medicine.wisc.edu or 608-263-6049.
